19th century signet seal ring, featuring engraved symbol with decorative embellishments along the border and sides of the ring. Ring appears to have once been used as a wax seal for correspondence.
History: Signet rings were essential to the appearance of nobility. The signet ring typically bared the crest of coat of arms representing the family. The origins of signet rings dates back to 331 B.C. as Alexander the Great conquered Persia and founded the Persian Empire. Sovereign seals were the highest symbols of power and authority also in the ancient Greek and Roman empires.
